“Slow Reverse” 3D Scanned AR Filter (2023)

Using Luma AI, Blender, and Spark AR, I brought a second life into Anna's piece, "Slow Reverse," as a dynamic 3D model that could be placed on any flat surface using augmented reality (AR). The unique topography of the piece presented interesting challenges for AR, as standard model reducing methods proved ineffective. For this, I developed a new model pipeline in Blender.

This creation proved invaluable during Anna's year-long exhibit, particularly when one of her artworks was temporarily showcased in a different museum. This AR effect not only enabled museum-goers to behold Anna's missing work in a completely new light—and from anywhere in the world—but also catalyzed their eagerness to share photos and videos of the experience across Facebook and Instagram, magnifying the reach of her art.

Anna has also commented that the dyes used in her work tend to fade over time. By digitally scanning her works, they can be perpetually preserved as they were originally intended.
